Did you ever forget to do something remarkable? Or can you not remember your own phone number? Or maybe you have to write notes regarding what you have to do for the day?
American psychologists from the University of Chicago have united the results of several studies in the field to reveal eight basic rules on how to better use your brain:
#1. Choose the right time for a mental load!
The memory of middle-aged people works better in the morning, while young people remember it easier and better in the middle of the day.
#2. Write it down!
Ancient Chinese wisdom says, “Even the palest ink keeps thoughts longer than the best memory.” Keep a journal where you take note of all the important things about you.
#3. Stimulate your memory!
Up-to-date research has shown that the amount of caffeine contained in a cup of coffee is enough to help you concentrate.
#4. Choose your intellectual profession!
Studies from Poland have shown that people whose career advancement depends on their intellectual abilities seek to use their memory and intelligence as much as possible and even develop them further.
#5. Communicate with people smarter than you!
Communicatig with them will be an incentive to develop memory and your intellectual abilities as a whole. This rule also affects the choice of a family partner.
#6. Learn from Leonardo!
Michael J. Gelb’s book “How to Think Like Leonardo da Vinci” proposes different strategies for how we can develop our intellectual abilities. For example, the author offers everyone who wants to improve their memory to learn to write or draw with the other hand.
#7. Listen to Mozart!
Psychologists have been able to prove that the Mozart effect really works. It is when listening to Mozart’s music that the brain begins to build more complex links between the particles of information contained therein. As a result, you’d need much less time to remember something.
#8. Train your body to train your mind! Research has shown that during exercise, the oxygen content of the blood is increased and therefore the metabolism of nutrients is accelerated. The blood circulates throughout the body, feeding the brain more efficiently. Thus, after exercise, the brain’s activity becomes considerably higher.
